With the news that Chesterfield Borough Council is dropping its plans to be part of the Sheffield City Region, newly elected North East Derbyshire MP Lee Rowley met with other campaigners in Chesterfield today to celebrate the climbdown by the local Council.
“By the end, the proposals for the Sheffield City Region in our part of the world were a mess and I welcome the fact that, finally, Chesterfield Borough Council have come to their senses on this issue”, said Lee. “Sheffield City Region might work well further north but it’s not a good idea for our area and I’m glad that the Council have, belatedly, accepted that point. Well done to everyone who campaigning on this issue for so long.”
