One of North East Derbyshire's most prominent councillors, Cllr Mike Emmens, has passed away after a long illness.
Cllr Emmens, who had served the residents of Coal Aston since 1999, was well known throughout the Coal Aston and Dronfield community for his many years of political, charitable and community works. Mike was also a Town Councillor in Dronfield and until 2012, he was also leader of Dronfield Town Council.
"I am so saddened to hear about Mike," said Lee Rowley. "He was a fantastic advocate for Coal Aston and Dronfield and he will be much missed across North East Derbyshire. My thoughts are with Joyce, Michelle and the rest of his family."
Cllr Martin Thacker, leader of the Conservative Group at North East Derbyshire Council said: "Mike cared passionately about North East Derbyshire and was particularly engaged in so many ways with the community of Dronfield."
"He was loyal, hardworking, honest and trustworthy. Mike was respected by all sides of the Council Chamber and will be missed by colleagues. He was a family man and I am sure Mike's passing will leave an emptiness for those who love him. Mike Emmens was a true gentleman and 'gentle man'."
Cllr Phil Blackburn will continue to serve as Councillor for Coal Aston and is available for all residents who need any help or advice.
